Visiting a church can be an intimidating experience. We are honored that you are considering doing so. Here’s what you can expect if you visit one of our worship services:
If you visit our 8:30 am Early Worship:
- While we say “8:30,” it isn’t unusual for folks to arrive 5 minutes or so late and so sometimes we are a few minutes late in getting started.
- Dress at this service is generally a bit more casual.
- The musical leadership at this service varies. Sometimes we focus on congregational hymn singing, other times musicians lead us in praise music, still others are led by the Joyful Sound Choir. And on very special Sundays, we’re led in music by our children.
- This service is attended by a variety of ages and types of people, including young families with kids, retirees living on Lake Wedowee, and lifelong residents of Wedowee.
- Because we generally have more children at this service, we feature a “children’s moment,” where the lesson and Scripture of the day are presented in a child friendly way.
- The service runs approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
- An offering is taken, but we consider your visit to be an offering to God.
- We’ll greet you warmly, but never put you on the spot to introduce yourself publicly.
- We have opportunities to take next steps in your spiritual journey, but will never put pressure on you to respond in ways you’re uncomfortable with or not ready for.
- Communion is generally celebrated on the first Sunday of the month as well as during a few other special occasions during the year.
If you visit our 11:00 am Late Worship:
- Dress at this service can be casual or one’s “Sunday best.” You’ll find our folks do some of both.
- This service is led musically by our Chancel Choir, who typically invite us into worship with an introit and deepen our worship experience with a thematically appropriate anthem.
- We’re proud that one of our high schoolers, Tyler Brown, leads us as a liturgist during this service.
- A separate Children’s Church is offered for the duration of the service for those who wish their young children to participate.
- Attendance at this service skews a little older, but you’ll find a variety of types of people worshipping together, including families, retirees living on Lake Wedowee, and lifelong residents of Wedowee.
- The service runs approximately 50 to 70 minutes.
In addition to our weekly Sunday Services, we typically have special services for Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, midday Holy Week, and Easter Sunday Sunrise.
